The Music Man
Coming April 2008

~ ~ Special 50th Anniversary Presentation ~ ~

Imagine walking down the streets of New York City fifty years ago. The glittering billboards and lighted marquees cry out to you: "Come and see The Body Beautiful; Oh, Captain!; Jamaica; Say Darling; The Music Man; and West Side Story." Your mind races. Which should you see? Which show is destined to be the enduring classic? Which has charm, elegance, wit, and artistry?

There is at least one answer. One show was so innovative and so refreshing that it transformed into a blockbuster movie, ran for 1,375 performances, and swept the Tonys that year (taking both Best Score and Best Musical). Get in line! It's time to buy those tickets to see this great show before it closes!

Of course, if you think you're buying tickets for West Side Story, you are wrong. For indeed, it is The Music Man which holds such high honors. Why? How could any show outrank the monumental work by the legendary Bernstein and Robbins?

Paragon Music Theatre wishes to answer that question this spring by offering a special 50th Anniversary presentation of the Meredith Willson American musical theatre classic. The Music Man tells the story of Harold Hill, a fast-dealing, smooth-talking salesman who scams good people out of their hard-earned money by falsely promising to assemble their sons and daughters into a marching band. Harold is a wildly successful con artist until he stumbles into the town of River City, Iowa. There, an intelligent, young musician and librarian named Marian Paroo is stubbornly determined to unmask him as a true scoundrel... that is, unless he can win her heart first.

Paragon's production promises to be a highlight of the artistic year. Held at the Lexington Opera House April 17-20, 2008, The Music Man will feature innovative direction (the stage ain't big enough!) by Alberta Labrillazo, refreshing dances (keep 'em movin'!) by Kentucky's own Diana Evans, and as always, the elite Paragon orchestra (76 trombones... wait... really??) led by music director Ryan Shirar.

But that's not all: You too can be a part of it! Tickets go on sale January 29. You will not want to miss participating in this enduring classic.
